When looking at a Jewish holiday, in most cases; you will notice three things. They observe their holidays today, in the present, while taking time to remember the past and what God has done for them, as well as look forward to the future. It is the same with all religious holidays. One of the most obvious ones is the Sukkot, or Feast of Tabernacle.
The Sukkot
During the Sukkot, the Jewish people are supposed to gather in Jerusalem. When they gather, they remember God’s provision and look ahead to when all nations will join them in Jerusalem to worship the Lord. Their belief is that one day, all people will come together at the “appointed time” to learn “to fear the Lord” as stated in Deut. 31:12.
The Remembrance
When Sukkot is going on, family’s dwell in a makeshift hut for a full eight days. These huts are then decorated with ribbons, pictures, fruits, and more. They may sleep in the hut and eat their meals there. It is a time when we remember how Israel lived in temporary shelters in the Wilderness for forty years.
Christians In Jerusalem
This holiday isn’t celebrated by only the Jewish community. For more than 35 years, Christians from all over the world have joined in to celebrate. Will you also travel to Jerusalem to take part in the Feast of Tabernacles when it happens again?
